Preliminary pure chemistry
practical exam 8 September 2006

think this practical's
gone too. i hate practicals! i'm no good at physics and i did ok for that. i do
better for biology and chemistry, but both my practicals suck. how to get
distinction?! *sighs. it's over.. well, at least i got the same value for
titration as 1 person. the answers i got from a few of my classmates differ a
lot.. from 21 to 28 cubic centimetres. i got 27.1 anyway.. our calculated
relative molecular mass ranged from 30 plus to 80 plus.. oh my God! i got 81..
hope i did well for my titration and had all my values calculated correctly. oh
yes, the apparatus in our laboratory sucks! wasted my time! the droppers are
problematic and i had a hard time getting the chemicals into my test tube. in
the end, i just poured.. and my pipette filler had some problems and my
potassium permanganate kept going up the pipette though i did not press the
filler! it gave me a shock, i thought what's wrong with me. and in the midst of
pulling out the filler to prevent the permanganate from flowing out, i spilled
some of it on me and the table. my hand and uniform got stained! and the tap of
the burette wasn't closed, so when i poured the sodium thiosulphate in, it
dripped out! stupid me, why didn't i check before using..

for my qualitative
analysis, i hope my observations are correct. i tested for all the gas except
carbon dioxide.. and andy said the anion was a carbonate.. i got chloride..
hmm.. some people get iodide, some get chloride.. however, according to benjamin,
the question said which element is present in the sodium salt.. so if i think
it's chloride, i should put down chlorine instead. i'm so DUMB! and for test 5,
the unknown solution acts as a reducing agent! that never occurred to me.. i'm
stupid! i put catalyst! argh.. 2 marks gone for trusting my instincts.. hope i
secure the 18 marks for observation. anyway, i did a series of test as
instructed and i do not know what i'm doing at all.. i had to carry out all the
tests for anions during the extra time. *sighs. really hope i didn't screw this
one and biology practical up too badly...
